Set-up of Structures

Below is the new design without the gazebo - and with the tent area. Tarps & the camo net can go where we need them. The pic has a compass and shade representing 7am. Shade moves right to left.

Figured out a way for us to do the center support without Ian needing to bring his steel structure. The idea just has one more pole in the center with a padded PVC square that slides over the top of the pole.

Drove a steel pipe 2' into the ground last weekend. It took some bangin, but wasn't hard. Read up on articles for bungie secure lines and tested on the pole. Seems strong.. though one never quire knows what the playa gods will have to say! :P

  1. or better yet, just use a cheap tarp over the tent area between the poles and save money on the expensive material. If the wind tears it, just put it back up. Doing this would mean only paying for the poles x tie wire. Much cheaper.

  2. For some reason Ian can't get a comment to stick on his computer. He sent this via email.

The Gazebo looks a bit on the large size, guessing it needs to be scaled down in the pict.

As far as price, what about the van? And I'm guessing the sooner we start pitching it the more likely the prices will stay low, I think I can start pushing money in Shaun's direction this weekend, but how much do we need to lock in the van's cost, cause I think that should be our first priority as it is going to cost the most.

I like the tent area off to the side. If you use up all the hut area with tents, where are we going to hang out, prep food, and bring people over? I can bring out my steel frame and put it in the middle of the mesh too so it won't sag, it's about 9 foot tall, and if I bring the whole thing and put it together, a couple of stakes will be enough to keep it in place.

But all and all I like the design, plus with the things we are talking about bringing/buying, we should have a few options of rearrangements without having to buy more stuff. Oh and are 6' polls going to be enough, figure a foot into the ground only gives 5' of clearance, then again maybe a little shorter to keep more sun out and close it off from others, and then one taller on the side we want to come in through?

  3. Oops, yea the gazebo would actually sit 2.5' inside of each of the MH's base edges if centered.

I think there are some who are just joining the camp and not going in on the van, but I agree that we should get the van booked. I'm still a bit concerned that the van won't get everyone out there though it will be nice for gear transportation. Just checked the van and it has gone up 10.00 and I would imagine it will continue as we get closer.

Thinking with your riser idea Ian, 6 or 7' poles should provide clearance from the tent tops and provide head room.

  4. I think if we are incorporating a new structure for tents then the gazebo becomes obsolete. Last year we comfortably fit around 8 people in the MH at a time. So if we have a new structure dedicated to tents, then what exactly is the gazebo's use?

  5. Further, if we use that setup on the side for tents, we need to ensure one of two things happens depending on the orientation of the MH:

    1) the MH is oriented such that the morning sun will rise hitting the non-tent side of the structure.

    Or,

    2) We need to get some side tarps to keep out the 9-11 morning sun.

  6. I'm cool with saying adios to the gazebo. It's $150 we don't have to spend and we can counter front shade with an extra tarp.

Set-up is designed for the tent area to be opposite sun up, putting the sun on the opposite MH wall in the morning. The tent area would have a full roof pitched up in the center.
